Artists Statement

My current studio practice combines media and processes such as drawing, writing, photography, video, sound, object making and installation. The writing of Artaud and Beckett have influenced my view on the use of space as a vehicle for communication and the temporal spectacle of performance, which crosses over with ideas of sculptural installation. Site specificity is also an important aspect of the work as it is both dramaturgical, as well as durational.

The staging of site specific, theatrical installation is also contextualised by research into the role of art in generating fictional future scenarios. My installations make heterotopias, or other worlds, in which narratives that lie somewhere between reality and fiction can be played out. By performing hypothetical futures through object, sound and video installation, my work aims to ask the question “what if?” in an attempt to deal with an uncertain future. In doing this the hope is to speak to a more universal human experience, in which we try to understand the world around us and our interactions with it.
